On an exciting journey of creative self-exploration, FRANKIE has expanded on her previous palette of deep, resonant cello loops, piano and vocals. Delicately treading a knife edge between romanticized balladry and highly processed electronic production, HEAVEN/HELL pushes her delicate, forlorn compositional style into industrial barrages of electronic rhythms, aggressively pitch-shifted vocal samples, and fiercely edited audio sample collage. Allowing each extreme to tear into the other across her increasingly intimate vocal performance, FRANKIE employs a bold approach to ‘cut-and-paste’ sampling of her own work, shapeshifting between detailed intimacy and dramatic electronic dynamics and texture.
To accompany the EP, FRANKIE has teamed up with long-time collaborators, filmmaker Austin Jack Lynch and photographer Nadine Fraczkowski. In the video for CLOUDS, Lynch produced a deeply intimate yet ghostly montage of close-ups, hands and face obscured by light and textures, as if FRANKIE were inside the camera, rather than in front of it. For the album art, Fraczkowski captured FRANKIE in occult closeness of a capsule hotel, suspended between mirrored walls, shadow and light.

The great underlying instrumentation paired with Florence's droll stream of consciousness lyrics make this album stand out. It feels so personal and confessional. Favorite tracks are Strong Feelings and Leafy. I've heard Scratchard Lanyard on alt radio and love that one as well. tofupotpie
